The path to plugging in..

Back in the spring of this year (2009) we ventured out into a cabin near Lake Cushman, Washington.   The goal was to get away and record some new material with a producer (Matt Brown) we had recently met through a mutal friend.  We really wanted Matt to challenge us and push us in new directions, so we decided to haul along all of our dormant electric instruments and gear “just in case”.  This led to some heavy experimentation with a lot of the original & traditional music that had been in heavy rotation.   Sonically, we broke many “traditional rules” -  a few songs feature Miller’s mandolin through a raging old school distorted tube amp.

Now, 5 months later and Miller has built his own custom electric mandolin (it’s beautiful) and we’ve been playing with a new electric bass player — Mr. Chris Richmond.    We’ve spend the summer frankly having a blast working on this new instrumentation.    We’re excited about the results, and we are eager to share it with more people!

New Website!

Hello folks, we’re happy to announce the launch of our new Captain Gravel website.  Expect this to fill up quickly, as we’ve generally been off the grid for a little while.   Many exciting things are coming, so please check back!
